November and the annual bonfire party was enjoyed by a good crowd that evening, which was mainly dry despite a poor forecast. Locomotives 1, 3 and 7 have had their boilers drained, ashpans, mudhole doors, plugs &c removed in preparation for the annual boiler inspection. Locomotive 2 has had one leaking and one dubious tube removed, to be replaced with spares; the engine should be handling most of the Christmas service. Locomotive 4 is in the workshop for mechanical work to be progressed. Work on the boiler has commenced at Bartlett's; locomotive 6 has had the boiler filled to the top and appropriate chemicals added for storage until Santa Special trains. Diesel locomotives 5 and 9 are in use; 8 is in the paint shop but mechanically serviceable; 10 has had problems with the starter motor, which is to be exchanged. Outdoor week started with some unseasonably fine weather and good progress on several jobs. |
