Admin login | Printable version Work Begins at Tywyn WharfWork has begun on the redevelopment of the Talyllyn Railway's Tywyn Wharf station, following grants from Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Development Agency supporting the rebuilding of the Traffic Office. The grants concerned are about £16,000 from the WDA and £47,000 from Gwynedd Council Cwlwm Gwledig regeneration fund. The current work will replace the ugly flat roofed extension on the east end of the old building with a slate roofed building, the east end of which is designed to look exactly like the original building, so that the view from the road bridge will look very much as it did in 1950. We are also adding a modest entrance lobby on the north side of the booking hall to add covered waiting accommodation and allow the internal office space to be marginally improved. To accommodate this small extension, part of the back office lean-to is being demolished. This work is not connected with the recent Heritage Lottery Stage 1 award of £456,000 - this HLF award will be funding work at the opposite end of the Wharf site, replacing the current Narrow Gauge Railway Museum building, and is still very much subject to confirmation at Stage 2, and we are hoping to provide the necessary information in time for their June meeting. Updates on the progress of this work are available, and will be updated regularly. |
