Centenary of the Birth of the Rev Wilbert Awdry: Exhibition Opening
Rev Wilbert Awdry is well known for his stories about a tank engine called 'Thomas', but he was also one of the pioneering volunteers at the Talyllyn Railway. He wrote the Talyllyn Railway into his books as the Skarloey Railway. Find out more about our Awdry connection here.
We will be opening a new exhibition in the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum to celebrate the Centenary of the Birth of the Rev Wilbert Awdry. The exhibition will run from the 15th June until the rest of the 2011 season.
There will be events on the 15th June for invited guests; visitors will be welcome to join to the opening ceremony at 10:45, subject to space in the museum.
A further celebration will take place on Saturday 18th June with the staging of an addition Children's Duncan Day. These usually twice annual family days include a host of activities - find out more.
The Talyllyn Railway is the owner of the locomotive Douglas which were written into the Rev. W. Awdry's stories as Duncan, along with other Talyllyn locomotives.
