  • Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 5th June - 12th July 2009
  • Mondays to Fridays, 20th July - 28th August 2009

  • Daily, 24th - 31st October 2009
  • Christmas 2009

We will also be holding two special events for children in 2009.

Thursday, 28th May 2009 - The Children's Duncan Day

Sir Handel’s Special Train will run from Tywyn Wharf Station to Abergynolwyn, for a series of fun events to be held during the day.   There will be a colouring competition and lots of fun-filled activities going on throughout the day.   Children will have the chance to have their photo taken with Sir Handel which they will be able to take home with them in a special souvenir card.    Children will be able to have free rides on Sir Handel ’s shuttle and those aged 14 or over may ride on the footplate.    There will be story-telling activities in between the shuttles. Sir Handel will be joined this year by Peter Sam and Rheneas.

At Wharf Station, many of the ‘Tracksiders’, the Talyllyn Railway’s family volunteer working group, will be running their model railways in the Slater Room.    A visit to the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at Wharf Station is a must, and with over seventy railways represented, the Museum portrays over 200 years of narrow gauge railways in Britain and Ireland.   Special displays are devoted to the Talyllyn Railway and the Rev. W Awdry, author of the ‘Railway series’ of children’s books, whose connection with the Talyllyn led to his Skarloey Railway stories.    Many Tracksiders will be reading some of these stories in the Museum. The Museum also contains the Rev. Awdry Study, one of the Museum’s permanent exhibits.

Story reading sessions

Every Friday during our peak (pink) timetable, there will be a half-hour story session taking place outside the Awdry Study.   Each session will start with a brief explanation as to how the Rev. Awdry came to write his stories, to explain the Awdry connection with the Talyllyn Railway and to explain the relationship between the Talyllyn Railway and the Skarloey Railway. Come along and enjoy the fun and have a great family day  out on the Talyllyn Railway. There is no need to book in advance.
