Phil Guest Appeal - Loco No. 7
Phil Guest was a long standing member of the locomotive department, latterly being driver and loco inspector. He also served on Council and was a director of the Talyllyn Railway Company. His recent death has saddened all his friends on the TR and an appeal has been opened in his memory to fund the extensive repairs to the boiler of locomotive No.7, "Tom Rolt" currently being undertaken. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Phil please download this form (pdf).

Rail Appeal

The Talyllyn Railway has had a long standing wish to acquire another mile of BS50 rail. An opportunity has arisen to fulfil this wish with hardly worn BS50 currently lying at Trecwn the former RNAD in Pembrokeshire. This may be our last chance to acquire good quality rail from MOD sources. How much of this rail we can purchase depends on how much money we can raise in the next month. To keep the costs down we have got a quote of £41,100 plus VAT based on us lifting the rail and the removal of all associated components e.g. spikes, sleepers, base plates & fishplates. We would still have to pay for the transport and any expenses incurred lifting the rail. We have several lengths of the line where the rail is coming to the end of its life. The ex Trecwn rail would be used to replace these sections and thereby further improve the standard of our permanent way. If insufficient funds are not available then the amount raised will be held in a "permanent way" fund in Holdings until other opportunities arise to use it. How much we can replace will depend on your generosity. Thank you. Keith Theobald Download appeal form
