Diamond Jubilee Appeal
Simon Jenkins launched the Diamond Jubilee Appeal, the main objects of which are the rebodying of bogie carriage No. 21 (one of the "saloons" adapted to carry wheelchairs) and major work on locomotive No. 3 Sir Haydn. A collection was held during the meeting towards the Appeal.
The Guest House
A motion was passed in favour of naming the new shed at Quarry Siding The Guest House in memory of Phil Guest, whose legacy has enabled this and other work on the Railway.
This is just a summary of the elections and other major items. The meeting was very amicable and finished at 1720.
The full minutes of the Annual General Meeting in draft form will be published here in due course. If any member of the Society has specific queries or corrections please Secretary [at] talyllyn [dot] co [dot] uk (email me) and I will do my best to deal with them.
The evening social included an auction in aid of the Diamond Jubilee Appeal.
Entertainment included an organ recital, a quiz and music and sketches performed by young and not-so-young members. A discotheque followed. As at the meeting turnout was rather down on recent years.
The bar was provided by the Membership & Activities Committee and made a profit for Society funds.
Saturday's weather was mainly characterized by showers, some heavy. Fortunately Sunday was fine with sunny periods for a visit by the Heritage Railway Association, whose members enjoyed touring Wharf and Pendre, took a round trip on a mainly Victorian train and complimented the Catering Department on the buffet lunch at Abergynolwyn.
