No 6 Douglas dismantled for overhaul

No 6 'Douglas' has recently been dismantled for a much needed overhaul. Here are some photos showing the process of stripping down an engine.

The bunkers, cab, boiler cladding and dome cover are stored on a wagon ready for when 'Douglas' gets put back together again.

The motion laid out ready for mending - usually the bearings need re-metalling as they get worn down over time, the oil pots will be cleaned out and new wicks put in, nuts and bolts checked and maybe a fresh coat of paint if there's time.

Already being used as a works bench! Most removable bits from 'Douglas' have been taken off so the fitters can access the hard to reach bits.

Thanks to Ray Reid and Alex Eyres for the photographs, and the Loco Working Party gang for all their hard work.
