Autumn Outdoor Week 2008

Keith Theobald's report on Outdoor Week 2008.

The week is over and its time to thank the 51 people who took part or supported the weeks activities in any way. What did we achieve:

• Completed filling in around the weighbridge pit at Wharf
• Completed the foundations and floor slab for the weighbridge hut

  • Built several trial builds of slate wall with different types of lime mortar
  • Knocked in the 21 vertical rails for the revetment at Dolgoch
  • Drilled 70 sleepers for the Pandrol gauge lock fixings
  • Drilled 380 ex Trecwn sleepers for standard dog spikes
  • Knocked in a number of vertical rails to create a revetment opposite the sleeper stacks East of milepost 6
  • Dismantled metres of track and relaid it with ex Trecwn rail and sleepers

  • Tree maintenance in the Abergynolwyn Station area
  • Ate all of the railway's Eccles cakes!

A single line entry does not do many of the tasks justice!

Last years total of people days was 236 this year total was a very pleasing 248 with several new faces among them. At times the weather was a bit damp but the BQM did not did have to call on his persuasive skills to keep things going.
