Talyllyn Heritage Group Weekend, 30 April - 2 May

The second Talyllyn Heritage Group weekend will take place over the weekend Saturday 30th April to Monday 2nd May. This year, efforts will be concentrated primarily in Tywyn; there will be opportunities to participate in a number of projects:

  • Preparation of displays in the new museum. This is ongoing, so it not yet possible to predict what exactly will be happening at the weekend.
  • Finishing off of new slate wagon for display outside Wharf station. A few holes remain to be drilled and corner straps fitted, and the floor plate needs preparing. It will then be dismantled and rubbed down prior to painting. This will take place at Pendre.
  • Washing off, cleaning, rubbing down and (weather permitting) repainting of the historic wagon collection at Wharf. If the weather is unsuitable, if we can at least get them cleaned down, there should be space available in the paint shop at Pendre during the summer.
  • Other tidying up of the Wharf site, to continue the work already started.
  • If numbers and weather permit, a group will go up to the old Permanent Way hut above Six Bends to continue consolidation of the structure.

On the Saturday evening there will be an informal gathering at Wharf with a slide show (contributions welcome), and, if possible, a preview tour of the new museum (which will probably not open to the public until later in May).

Organiser Don Newing can be contacted by email. Work groups will assemble on Saturday at 09.00 at Wharf. (If you cannot be there at that time, come when you can.)
