Quarry Shed, Wharf Cutting and Pendre news
As of Friday 10th February the Guest House (Quarry Shed) is progressing well. Only the dwarf wall, corner bits and main doors are left to go now.
Last week the Wharf Cutting gang managed to prepare about 90 metres of trench. Six people days were achieved on Saturday 11th February and 5.5 on the Sunday.
First thing on the Saturday saw three tippers of spoil emptied. The gang spent the rest of the day installing 36 metres of 150mm pipe work along with one preformed catch pit. On Sunday they were able to install 60 metres of 150mm pipe, a preformed catch pit and a second brick catch pit was almost completed.
During the weekend the ballast, grit and quarry dust wagons were refilled several times. The weather was very kind fortunately and all the above was achieved between the half term service trains. Thank you everyone for your very hard work.
Pendre has also been a hive of activity. The boiler is back on No 6 Douglas making the engine look nearly finished. However there is still a lot of work to be completed before she'll be ready for service. While No 7 Tom Rolt's cylinders are away, it was a good opportunity to give the inside of the cab a new coat of paint.
In the paintshop much work has been carried out lately. Carriage number 9 and the tool van were brought into the paintshop for a `quick' revarnish. Van 10 is having a repaint. One of the opens needs a lot of work doing on it, but the repaint is going well. Thanks to the Wednesday Club and the bodgers for all their hard work over the winter getting the carriages ready for the new season.
