George Henry (Penrhyn Quarry)

This is an 0-4-0 vertical boilered tank engine built in 1877 by de Winton & Co. of Caernarfon for the huge Penrhyn Slate Quarry at Bethesda. Acquired in 1955, after a long working life, this engine, like most of the others in the museum is in the condition in which it finished work.
George Henry's main technical details are:
- Wheel diameter: 1 ft. 8 in.
- Wheelbase: 4 ft. 4 in.
- Length overall: 10 ft. 10 in.
- Height to top of chimney: 7 ft. 11 in.
- Width over frame: 3 ft. 4 in.
- Boiler diameter: 3 ft. 1 in.
- Height of footplate above rail: 2 ft.
- Cylinder dimensions: 6 in. x 12 in.
- Boiler pressure: 120 psi.
- Approximate tractive effort: 1836 lb.
- Gauge: 1 ft. 10 3/4 in.
