Dinorwic Loco "Rough Pup"

Rough Pup

This 0-4-0 saddle tank is one of a numerous design (the "Alice" class) built for use in the Dinorwic Slate Quarries at Llanberis by the Hunslet Engine Co. of Leeds. Rough Pup (works no. 541) dates from 1892, and is virtually in the condition in which she finished work in 1960. She arrived in the museum in 1968.

The main technical details of the "Alice" class are:

  • Boiler pressure: 140 psi.

  • Minimum curve radius: 21 ft.
  • Gauge: 1 ft. 10 3/4 in.
