Founder's Weekend and Tom Rolt Centenary Gathering

A celebration of the birth of railway preservation on the Talyllyn Railway including vintage transport display and vintage coach trips.

Arrangements for Founders Day Friday 14th May

Members of the Society and Members of the Public are invited to join the special Victorian Train which will leave Tywyn Wharf at 12 noon, stop for a short commemoration at Rhydyronen and for water at Dolgoch. At Abergynolwyn the passengers will alight for a buffet lunch, a short speech by TRPS Vice President John Bate, a reply by Major Norman Corbett, our principal guest, and toasts to the continued success of the Talyllyn Railway. The return train is timed to arrive at Tywyn Wharf at 15.10.

Bookings are open for the Founders Day Special which leaves Wharf at 12 noon on Friday 14 May.

Tickets, to include train travel and a buffet lunch at Abergynolwyn are TRPS Member £7, non-members Adult £17 and Child £10.

Vintage Transport Display

It is also the centenary year of Tom Rolt, one of the pioneering members of the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society. Tom was a well known author, engineer, and classic car enthusiast. To celebrate his centenary and the continued achievements of the preservation society, a collection of vintage vehicles will be on display on Saturday 15^th and Sunday 16^th May at Abergynolwyn and a Talyllyn film show with Wurlitzer Organ accompaniment will take place at Neuadd Pendre in Tywyn on Saturday 15th followed by a special evening train at approximately 2215 . Visitors staying up the line can enjoy an evening in Tywyn before returning on this train, or those in Tywyn can simply take a ride to enjoy the railway by night.

King's Licensed Café will be open for evening meals before the film show. Advance bookings for evening meals on this day can be made via enquiries [at] talyllyn [dot] co [dot] uk or in person during the weekend.

Vintage coaches are running all weekend

Vintage coaches are running all weekend from Machynlleth & Aberdovey to Tywyn for the Talyllyn Railway. From Abergynolwyn coaches will take you on a sightseeing tour to Talyllyn Lake. Have a full day out: steam trains journeys, coach trips, vintage vehicles, museum and great cafés! For further information and times, please download poster using the link at the bottom of the page.

Admission to the vintage vehicles display at Abergynolwyn is free for train ticket holders - but donations are welcome. A small fee will be charged for anyone without a valid train ticket for the day.
