We will also be holding two special events for children in 2008. Thursday, 29th May 2008 - The Children's Duncan DaySir Handel’s Special Train will run from Tywyn Wharf Station to Abergynolwyn, for a series of fun events to be held during the day. There will be a colouring competition and lots of fun-filled activities going on throughout the day. Children will have the chance to have their photo taken with Sir Handel which they will be able to take home with them in a special souvenir card. Children will be able to have free rides on Sir Handel ’s shuttle and those aged 14 or over may ride on the footplate. There will be story-telling activities in between the shuttles. A visit to the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at Wharf Station is a must, and with over seventy railways represented, the Museum portrays over 200 years of narrow gauge railways in Britain and Ireland. Special displays are devoted to the Talyllyn Railway and the Rev. W Awdry, author of the ‘Railway series’ of children’s books, whose connection with the Talyllyn led to his Skarloey Railway stories. The Museum also contains the Rev. Awdry Study, one of the Museum’s permanent exhibits. Thursday, 21st August – The Children’s Duncan DayOnce again, Sir Handel ’s Special Train will run from Tywyn Wharf Station to Abergynolwyn, for a series of fun events to be held during the day. In addition to the colouring competition, badge-making, craft work, treasure hunt, story-telling and Sir Handel shuttles, there will be a ‘Spot Sir Handel competition up and down the line.
