Talyllyn Preservation 60 - Anniversary Gala
Celebrating 60 years since the world's first preserved passenger train ran here on the Talyllyn Railway with a Gala event. Featuring the return of No2 Dolgoch to steam.
A weekend of events for enthusiasts
2011 is 60 years since the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society operated the first train over the railway they saved from closure. This was the world's first preserved train, it ran from Tywyn to Rhydyronen on the 14th May 1951.
The weekend will include extra and special trains, evening trains, a cavalcade of locomotives, ale & food, and more.
Locomotive No.2 Dolgoch will be re-launched into service after a major overhaul. This work has been the subject of a Appeal in Steam Railway magazine.

All available locomotives will be in steam. At Tywyn Wharf: The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, Garden Railway, King’s Licensed Cafe, and Gift Shop. At Abergynolwyn: Quarrymans’ Tea Room and Miniature Railway. |

9.00am, Tywyn Wharf: Ceremonial arrival of Loco 2 Dolgoch also: King’s Licensed Cafe open for breakfast

9.40am, Tywyn Wharf: Official unveiling of Dolgoch. 10.00am, Tywyn Wharf: First train re-enactment leaves Tywyn Wharf for Brynglas. Top-and-tailed with No2 Dolgoch on the front and No1 Talyllyn on the back. Travel for invited guests only (due to limited capacity of vintage train). Everyone is welcome to view and photograph the ceremony and departure. 11.50am, Tywyn Wharf: First train re-enactment returns.

5.30pm, Tywyn Wharf: Cavalcade of all available locomotives Tywyn Wharf to Rhydyronen. 5.55pm, Rhydyronen: Cavalcade departs for Tywyn. |

7.00pm, Tywyn Wharf: Train for hog roast and real ale at Abergynolwyn. Travel on this train is £10 Adults £3 Children, and free for TRPS Members. The hog roast (or vegetarian alternative) is £6.50. Morning, Tywyn Wharf: Photo special with No.2 Dolgoch hauling vintage carriages, with stops for photography at interesting locations. Special ticket required: £20 per person, this is also valid on service trains for the rest of the day. |

This weekend will be a fitting celebration for 60 years of railway preservation as well as a two great days out for enthusiasts.
