The Talyllyn Railway in Colour, R.J. Morland
Come for a ride on the Talyllyn Railway the first railway in the world to be taken over and run by volunteers. Join a train hauled by steam locomotives built in the 1860s and travel up the beautiful Fathew Valley from the terminus in Tywyn, close to the Cardigan Bay coast, to Nant Gwernol which nestles in a narrow ravine seven miles inland.
The Talyllyn Railway has been the subject of many books since the formation of the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society back in 1950. Here for the first time there is a book that shows the Talyllyn in full colour through 400 superb photographs taken over fifteen years by one of the Talyllyns leading photographers.
Most of us are familiar with the public face of our chosen heritage railway. Not all photographers are lucky enough to have the privileged position of being able to go behind the scenes at, as it were, the drop of a lens-cap. Bob Morland, as a member of the Talyllyns Locomotive Department over many years, has made the most of his opportunities, and in this book gives us as intimate (in the best possible sense) a picture of the Talyllyn Railway as could possibly be achieved.
