This DVD was filmed in 1990/1991 when the Talyllyn celebrated 40 years of preservation. It includes No2 Dolgoch in its 1950s livery and No4 Edward Thomas painted as ‘Peter Sam’. There is plenty of line side action and interesting driver’s eye view from the footplate of No1 Talyllyn on its return trip from Tywyn Wharf to Nant Gwernol. Talyllyn passes No3 Sir Haydn and No6 Douglas en route. The DVD concludes with the naming of the new loco No7 Tom Rolt in May 1991.

A Day in the Life of Two Talyllyns

Two locomotives came together in 2001 to celebrate the 50 years of success of the Talyllyn Railway. Virgin Trains named express electric locomotive 86258 Talyllyn in honour of this achievement. The two locomotives couldn’t lead more different lives, the steam Talyllyn hurtles up the valley of the Afon Fathew at a full 15mph, whereas her namesake surges over the Virgin Network at 100mph. So see the two of them now and enjoy this comparison of a days work for each.
