Admin login | Printable version The Annual General Meeting took place in Neuadd Pendre (formerly the Drill Hall), Tywyn on Saturday afternoon, 25th. September, 2004. The chair was taken by Vice-President Richard Hope. The major items of business were:
Election of PresidentChristopher Awdry was re-elected as President.
Election of Vice-PresidentsThe following were elected as Vice-Presidents:John Bate, James Boyd, Pat Garland, Alan Holmes, Richard Hope, Dai Jones, Winston McCanna, Major Peter Olver, Sonia Rolt, Roy Smith, Don Southgate, Jeremy Wilkinson and Maurice Wilson.
Appointment of AuditorsSilver and Company were reappointed as the Society's Auditors.
Election of Honorary SecretaryJohn Robinson was re-elected.
Election of Council Members202 ballot papers were submitted and the votes were as follows, the successful candidates being shown in bold:
Traffic and Operating CommitteeThe T.& O.C. election was uncontested; those elected were:
Locomotive DepartmentJohn Burton, Martin Fuller, Bill Heynes and Phil Higginson.Traffic DepartmentWalter Crowe, Pippa McCanna, Alistair Ribbands and MRFS.
Young Members' CommitteeThe Y.M.G. Committee election was uncontested and no announcement was made.CollectionA collection was held during the meeting in memory of John Slater and raised approximately £1,062 (including assumed tax reclaim on donations to Talyllyn Holdings under gift-aid).
Locomotive livery policyA procedural motion proposed by Mike Davies was carried which resulted in the Council proposition on livery policy not being put to the meeting. The intention is that a range of options should be put to the 2005 A.G.M.
Observers at Council MeetingsA motion proposed by Mike Davies was carried which requested the Council of the Society to admit other members of the Society to observe non-confidential business at its meetings.
Members' free travelA motion was proposed by Michael Howard in the terms prefigured in his letter in the September Talyllyn News, but failed to find a seconder after it was pointed out that any proposal for change would have to be brought to a future General Meeting.
Life membershipThe Chairman of Council presented David Martin with a Life Membership card at his father's expense.
PortacakeRecollecting that in about 1990 he had vowed to eat any portable building remaining at Wharf after five years, and noting that their removal was now within contemplation, Jane Garvey presented David Leech with a cake in the semblance of a portable building. The sale of pieces of cake later raised about £65.This is just a summary of the elections and other major items. The meeting was more lively than some in recent years and finished at 1730. The full minutes of the Annual General Meeting in draft form will be published here by about 24/10/2004. The evening entertainment was the most humorous for some years. The weather was wet early in the day and cold in the early evening.
