In proposal ‘C’ at the request of its author the word “designated” was changed to “to be available”; the description of the vote-counting mechanism was amended, but in the event did not affect what took place.
The results of the ballot were as follows:
Membership SubscriptionsAn overwhelming majority voted in favour of a motion proposed by Chris Price as amended by Simon Jenkins increasing subscription rates in a different pattern to that proposed by the Council.
The new subscription rates came into force immediately and are:
Presentation to Colin RoobottomThe Chairman of the Board thanked Colin for his forty years’ service as Treasurer of the Society and presented him with a copy of The Talyllyn Railway in Colour. (It should be noted that Colin did not wish to be nominated for the office of Vice-President this year as he will be deeply involved for some time to come, notably in preparing the 2005-06 Annual Accounts.)
Presentation by Sue WhitehouseSue Whitehouse presented Talyllyn Holdings with a cheque for £1,000, being the major instalment of the Railway’s share of the money raised from sponsors of her long walk to Scotland. (See page 36 of the September Talyllyn News for more details.) Two other good causes will also receive donations from Sue.
Draw for copy of The Talyllyn Railway in ColourThe free prize draw for a copy of Bob Morland’s new book, announced on page 6 of the September Talyllyn News, took place and was won by Mike Davies.
Fraternal GreetingsPeter Stowell of the Puffing Billy Preservation Society addressed the meeting.
And finally...David Leech called Gordon Rhodes to the platform and recollected that on 6th. July, 1968 Gordon had been the Guard of a propelled empty stock train from Pendre to Wharf. Recent changes had released an item of equipment which might be significant to him. He then presented Gordon with the old Wharf buffer-stop beam. This is just a summary of the elections and other major items. The meeting was quite lively but very good-humoured and finished at 1738. The full minutes of the Annual General Meeting in draft form will be published here by about 24/10/2005. If any member of the Society has specific queries or corrections please email me and I will do my best to deal with them.
The evening entertainment included Phil Higginson’s last play (for the second time, but in future there will be a ring to rule his activities) and universally acknowledged as a masterpiece. After a heavy shower at breakfast time the weather was fine until time for the meeting and remained dry until late evening.
