T.R.P.S. Annual General Meeting 2006 - Summary

The Annual General Meeting took place in Neuadd Pendre (formerly the Drill Hall), Tywyn on Saturday afternoon, 30th. September, 2006. The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Council, Gareth Jones. The major items of business were:

Election of President

Richard Hope was elected as President and took the chair.

Amendments to the Constitution and Rules

The changes published in the June Talyllyn News were approved overwhelmingly.

Vice-Presidents

In accordance with the transitional provisions for the Rules changes, the following remain as Vice-Presidents for life:
Peter Austin, John Bate, James Boyd, Philip Care, Alan Holmes, Richard Hope, Dai Jones, Winston McCanna, Major Peter Olver, Sonia Rolt, Roy Smith, Don Southgate, Jeremy Wilkinson and Maurice Wilson.

Colin Roobottom was elected unanimously as a Vice-President.

Presentation to Colin Roobottom

The Managing Director thanked Colin for his service of over forty years and presented him with a copy of a book about the Leek and Manifold Light Railway and a framed photograph of Colin driving locomotive 5 Midlander on the former Sliding Siding at Ty Mawr.

Appointment of Independent Examiners

Silver and Company were reappointed as the Society’s Independent Examiners.

Election of Honorary Secretary

John Robinson was re-elected.

Election of Council Members

233 ballot papers were submitted and the votes were as follows, the successful candidates being shown in bold:

Traffic and Operating Committee

The T.& O.C. election was uncontested and no announcement was therefore made at the A.G.M. However, those elected were:

Locomotive Department

Martin Fuller, Bill Heynes and Phil Higginson.

Traffic Department

Walter Crowe, Lawrence Garvey, MRFS and Matthew Wear.

As it is the Committee’s intention to appoint Paul Cottrell as Editor of the Volunteer, it agreed at its last meeting to co-opt him to fill the vacancy for a Locomotive Department representative.

Strategy Group Report

Garry Mumford gave a Powerpoint presentation of the Business Strategy Plan printed in the September Talyllyn News and responded to questions from the floor.

Start time of future Annual General Meetings

After debate a vote was held which, by a large majority, favoured retaining a start time of approximately 1530.

Collection

A collection was held during the meeting in aid of improvements to the area South of the loop at Wharf.

This is just a summary of the elections and other major items. The meeting was good-humoured and finished just after 1730.

The main item of the evening entertainment was the “TR Idle” show compered by the inimitable Chris Price. The winning act was a song performed by Chris Palmer.

The weather was fine during the day.
