November, 2002; of 18 drivers and 13 passed firemen who had driven steam-hauled passenger trains during 2002, 26 were present (accounting for 91% of trips) and most of the others, including one prevented from attending by ill-health, had submitted written comments. Driver TrainingAll Drivers are encouraged to give training appropriate to firemen's experience and level of competence.
Booking for DrivingIn a lengthy discussion it was clear that some drivers still found it necessary to book time for driving as early as possible, to enable leave and accommodation arrangements to be confirmed, whilst others found it difficult to arrange leave until later in the year.As an experiment it was agreed that bookings for up to three weeks would be confirmed as soon as possible, but further bookings would be held back until most drivers had had an opportunity to book.
