Volunteer Bookings

Admin login | Printable version

Dear Member,

Your help is needed with work in all sections of the railway - both in operation and maintenance.

If you are able to give some time, please complete and return the booking form as soon as possible.

All bookings will be acknowledged - either accepting the dates that you have given or suggesting alternatives if there are too many volunteers already booked for a particular week.

Volunteers for Shop or Refreshment duties will be especially welcome and it is hoped that Traffic and Locomotive volunteers will also consider helping with this work.

It should be noted that you may also use this form to offer your services as Museum Attendant.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION - WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU.

PLEASE READ THESE NOTES CAREFULLY - THEY MAY HAVE CHANGED.

GENERAL NOTES

  1. Please remember you are not restricted to work in one section of the Railway. There are always plenty of miscellaneous jobs to be done at times when you may not be required for Traffic or Loco duties, and volunteers will be welcome to assist with Shop or Refreshment duties.
  2. Please give alternative dates if you can.
  3. Persons wishing to train as Blockmen should note that they must be at least 16 years of age.
  4. It will be appreciated that in order to cover days off, special duties and possible illness it is sometimes necessary to book slightly more volunteers than the train service requires. However, with your co-operation this will be kept to a minimum.
  5. In all cases volunteers who book in advance will have priority in the allocation of duties.
  6. If a regular volunteer is not able to help for any reason a note to this effect would be appreciated.
  7. Volunteer bookings for Traffic and Loco duties are charted as soon as they are received. This means that we can usually give you up to date information as to which weeks are full and advice on those for which there are still vacancies.
  8. It is impossible, in the space available on this form, to tell a new volunteer all that he or she would wish to know about voluntary work on the Railway. There is a separate set of notes which give detailed information relating to work on the Traffic and Operating side and in the Locomotive Department. If you would like a copy of these notes they are available from Wharf office.
  9. Don't forget that volunteers can be accommodated cheaply at our hostel (Llechfan). Contact the warden at Wharf Office.
  10. Those involved with safety critical work as defined by the Railways, Safety Critical Work Regulations, may not be accompanied on those duties by children under the age of 14 under any circumstances.
  11. Prior arrangements MUST be made with management before children under the age of 14 are permitted to work on the Railway in any circumstances.
  12. In order to comply with the Railways, Safety Critical Work Regulations, all volunteers are required to have completed a strictly confidential and simple Medical Statement form within the last three years. If there is any significant change to your health which might affect your work on the Railway, you must inform the Managing Director without delay.
