Volunteers' Showcase Gala
Find out about volunteering on the world's first preserved railway. Have a go and experience driving a steam or diesel locomotive, visit the workshops and many more activities.
In 1951 the Talylyn Railway was saved from closure by a groups of volunteers who formed the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society [more]. To this day volunteers drive the trains, sell the tickets, maintain the track and do most of the jobs required to run the railway.
On Saturday 25 August you can find out what it is like to be a volunteer on a leading tourist railway. We have steam driver experiences, drive a diesel for a fiver, workshop tours and extra trains.
