The Annual Abergynolwyn Duck Race and Fun Day will take place at 1200 on Bank Holiday Sunday the 6th May, and usually finishes at 4 pm.
It centres on the children’s playground in the centre of the village, a short walk from Abergynolwyn railway station, where the BBQ, Cake Stall,Tombola and various other stalls including face painting for children are situated.
The ’Grand’ Opening is at 12 noon with the Abergynolwyn Silver Band starting things off in fine style.
Great fun is had by children taking part in many old fashioned games, ie. sack races, three legged races, plank races, egg and spoon races.
Can they beat ‘Roley the Goalie’.
It all culminates in the ‘Tug of War’ event at about 3.30 pm, when first the children and then the adults wear themselves out trying to win.
There will be up to 1,000 ducks racing down the Nant Gwernol in heats of 100, the first 10 from each race, being kept for the Grand Final. Ducks are on sale at £1 each, and the first prize is £30, 2nd is £20, 3rd is £15, 4th is £10, 5th is £5.
All monies raised go to help with the upkeep of the Y Ganolfan, Abergynolwyn Village Hall.
