The Talyllyn is a great day out for all the family – young and old!
The daily steam train travels 14.5 miles and takes 2.5 hours. The journey winds it way up the Fathew Valley and takes in the sights an sounds of the tranquil Welsh countryside.
At journeys end, Nant Gwernol, the engine runs around and changes end. Make the most of the 10 minute stop and marvel at the clear water running through the impressive gorge, and read about the slate quarry high above the railway that linked to it.
After a short trip, we stop at Abergynolwyn for around half an hour. Youngsters can stretch their legs on the Discovery Trail and Adventure Playground, or enjoy the peace and indulge in a homemade cake at the cafe.
Back at Wharf station – make sure you visit the Museum (at the end of the platform) – lots of interesting artefacts to look at – including the Rev Awdry’s study – author of Thomas the Tank Engine.
