Find out what’s been happening in Pendre loco shed over the winter.

It’s good to be back on the annual loco maintenance, in the warm by the shed stove. Most of the people attending recent loco working parties are regulars and we’ve tried to keep them fairly small to minimise the on-going Covid 19 risks. Lots of work has been done by workshop staff and volunteers in between official working parties, so slowly but surely the annual maintenance gets done ready for the next season.

October – taking No 2 Dolgoch to bits

We started off in earnest in early October. Our first mission was to take No 2 ‘Dolgoch’ pretty much completely apart ready for the 10 year boiler inspection. Working round her still-warm boiler, over one weekend a small volunteer team had stripped No 2 down to the boiler, washed out and parked over the workshop pit ready for the next tasks. We had lots of boxes to store bits in, which to be fair makes a nice change, and made sure everything was labelled up before storing them in the usual wagons.
