Role: Mechanical Fitter

Be part of the World’s First Preserved Railway The Talyllyn Railway is a heritage railway based in Tywyn, Gwynedd. The railway has run since 1865 and attracts around 50,000 visitors every year.

Due to the increasing volume of work we are looking to recruit a new Mechanical Fitter.  Based at the Engineering Works at Pendre, the job is a permanent position, 38 hours per week, carrying out repairs and maintenance on our range of locomotives and rolling stock.

The Position:

Be part of the existing engineering team, working safely and efficiently Repairs, maintenance, inspections and overhauls of locomotives, rolling stock & plant. Assisting volunteers to participate in engineering activities Involves some weekend work on a rotation basis to provide engineering cover


  • Qualification in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent Experience in metal machining and use of machine tools
  • Have excellent communication skills, ability to work in a team
