The Talyllyn Railway can confirm that an empty slow speed carriage derailed earlier today during movement on the railway whilst doing a stock shunt.

The incident occurred within the railway’s operational area and was managed promptly by railway staff in accordance with established safety procedures. No passengers were involved, no injuries were sustained and there was no damage to the infrastructure.

Operations in the affected area were temporarily suspended while the carriage was safely recovered and the track inspected. The railway’s engineering and operations teams conducted a full assessment to establish the cause of the derailment before normal operations resumed.

The safety of our passengers, volunteers, staff and visitors remains our highest priority. We have informed the appropriate authorities where required and will implement any necessary recommendations arising from the investigation.
