Retrace the steps of the Rev. W. Awdry with this unique experience day …
This experience will provide exclusive access to non-public areas of the railway, combined with a relaxing first-class trip and the chance to see various artefacts and points of inspiration that influenced the Reverend Wilbert Awdry when writing his famous engine stories.
The itinerary is as follows:
Arrive at 9:45am for mid-morning refreshments and meet your guides, Frank Nolan & Luke Ryan.
A quick guided look around the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, home to the Awdry Study.
A Full Guided Tour of our engine shed, workshops and carriage sheds – where you may get to see some familiar steam locomotive friends and locations that inspired places seen in the original books.
Following a return to Wharf Station, it is time for lunch in our café – all included in the price.
This will be followed by an up-close look at some unique artefacts from within the Awdry Study and models from The Rev. W. Awdry’s own model railway ‘Ffarquhar Branch’.
After this we will take a full round trip on the railway, travelling in a first-class compartment, where your guides will point out various locations of interest that served as inspiration for the stories. The train will be hauled by one of our steam locomotives that features in the books.
On arrival at Abergynolwyn you will find a scrumptious cream tea to enjoy at your own reserved table.
Return to Tywyn Wharf for one final look in the Museum

This is a full-day experience beginning at 9:45am and finishing around 5:30pm on Lilac Timetable days & around 6:00pm on Pink Timetable days. This experience can be booked for any day when trains are running suitable for you, subject to there being no other bookings or extra trains operating.
